Quiet Two Departure

The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California, acquired this wall installation of seedy glass ellipses. The orientation of the ellipses is based on a series of four arbitrary way points in space that pilots use to navigate from San Francisco to Sacrament. The flight path is called “Quiet Two Departure.” The reflected and transmitted shadows expand and contract with the use of a remote moving light unit. The glass wings can also be installed in areas where they are lit with direct sun light, allowing the shadows to change daily.
